Eye Bag Removal Surgery Explained | blepharoplasty clinic UK

As we age, the muscles around the eyes start to lose their elasticity. The younger ones among us will have tight skin, giving them a youthful appearance, but as this elasticity wanes, the skin begins to develop folds and creases, making the eyes look baggy and tired. Smokers and those who drink heavily will often find these activities only exacerbate this problem. This is a source of worry for many people concerned with their appearance, but luckily eye bag removal surgery reverses these effects of aging, causing the skin around the eyes to take on a youthful tone again.

When you consider that the most prominent area of everyone’s face is the eyes, it becomes clear that keeping the eyes looking good is important. We also understand that having any work done around the eyes is a concern for everyone, which is why we want to make you aware of how the procedure works, what happens afterwards and whether there are any risks involved.

How Does Eye Bag Removal Surgery Work?

Eye bag surgery is also known as lower blepharoplasty, and it is a procedure carried out by trained and expert surgeons. They will make incisions along the natural lines below your eyes, before then removing small pieces of skin, along with excess fat. This will allow the skin to be taut once more and will not leave visible scarring, due to the positioning of the incisions and the expertise of the surgeons. It is also sometimes the case that the incisions are made inside the eyelid, depending on the opinion of the team working on you.

What Happens After the Surgery?

The procedure is generally completed under local anaesthetic and therefore you will be able to leave the hospital on the same day, providing you and the medical team feel this is appropriate. When you have this procedure, the area around the eyes will be sore, and there will be some swelling and bruising. You will also need stiches around the eyes. None of these after-effects are permanent though, and they will disappear after around two weeks.
Before you leave the hospital, our team will ensure you have all the information needed to make sure you take the best possible care of your eyes after the procedure. You will experience some sensitivity to light, so we’d recommend buying a good pair of sunglasses, plus we’ll also schedule you in for an aftercare appointment, to ensure that everything is progressing properly and to remove the stitches.

Is Eye Bag Removal Surgery Risky?

It would be unprofessional of us to state that there’s no risk to this procedure, but that is because every single medical procedure has risks. The risks associated with eye bag removal surgery are incredibly minimal though, and our expertise ensures that we know the exact way to perform this procedure on every patient. If you are concerned about any risks however, our team is always willing to talk through your concerns with you at any point during your journey.
